Here are some trivia and interesting facts about the film ‘The Man with the Iron Fists’ (2012).

The film is written by RZA and Eli Roth
They worked on the screenplay for two years doing a detailed emphasis on its every aspect, including each weapon used by the actors.

The first cut came out to be four hours in length
So Eli Roth cut it down to 90 minutes even through RZA expressed a desire to split the film into two parts instead of reducing it.

Crowe
Who is considered the best addition to the movie by the critics agreed to do the movie as a return of a favor that RZA did for him, which was giving some rap lessons to the rugby team he co-owned- ‘Sydney Rabbitohs’.

The role of the poison dagger was initially to be played by Byron Mann
However, when the actor cast for the character of Silver Lion backed out just before the shoot could start, Mann was recast to Silver.

Silver Lion
Mann actually developed characteristics such as psychopathic nature for his role as the Silver Lion.

The director and co-writer of the film
RZA specially designed the character of the Blacksmith for himself.

RZA practiced in Hung Ga
For around two hours every day for over two months to prepare for his role as the Blacksmith.

“The Killer” Movie Soundtrack
The song which is played at the beginning of the movie ‘The Killer’ (1989) is same as the one sung in Blossom’s brothel in the earlier sections of the film.

Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu convinced RZA for her fight sequence with the Bronze Lion (Cung Le) because she wanted to portray the strength of a female character in a male-dominated film. She manages to kill Bronze in the sequence but also dies in the process.

Blacksmith Character
RZA had Yune in mind for the character.

Bronze
Instead of Liu, Crowe was originally supposed to have a martial arts sequence opposite Bronze during the climax. However, due to his tight schedule and lack of rehearsal he couldn’t perform the fight and hence Liu got an opportunity to convince and fight out.

Ten days shooting
Crowe was only able to spare ten days for shooting his scenes.

Even before the script was completed
The character of the Blacksmith was partly based on RZA’s late cousin Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Clint Eastwood
Crowe drew inspiration for his character from Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry (1971) and The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976).

Ten days shooting
Crowe was only able to spare ten days for shooting his scenes.

Rick Yune and Dave Bautista
Rick Yune and Dave Bautista played the adversaries in the movie. They both played villains in James Bond movies’ Die Another Day (2002) (Yune) and Spectra (2015) (Bautista).

In the earlier section of the film
In the earlier section of the film, a few modern buildings and architecture were visible on the horizon which shouldn’t have been there.

There is a goof up in the film
As the scene where poison dagger jumps out of the water, his hair continues to be dry.

The movie also drew reference
From ‘The Untouchables’ (1987) which can be seen from the dialogue “Bring the gun to a knife fight”.
